There have been discussions that Seminole State College has been in the works of bringing back a basketball team into the athletic program.
“It’s in my plans,” said Kurt Esser, athletics director at Seminole State.
A self-proclaimed basketball fan, Esser is entering his fourth year as the athletics Director. He said he has plans for the future for not only the athletic program, but the campus life itself.
In an interview with the Scribe, Esser said he“would love nothing more than to bring basketball back to our campus.”
The main concern about adding the basketball team is the funding, he said.
“I don’t wanna add a sport if it’s going to take away from your budget,” Esser said he told coaches of the college’s other athletic teams.
The addition of a new basketball team wouldn’t be possible without a building and court for it. The new athletic facility being built in Building H will add a court, weight room, showers and locker rooms among other things a team would need. The facility is a big piece of the puzzle when it comes to all the athletic programs, Esser said.
At the moment, the news Health Center in Building H is projected to open in October.
Basketball players can still enjoy the game at SSC through the intramural program.
