Mass Effect: Andromeda

Mass Effect: Andromeda

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he new trailer and information dropped on Tuesday, November 7th for the new Mass Effect game. Mass Effect: Andromeda is the newest game in the almost 10 year old franchise that first started on the Xbox 360 as a launch title.

The original Mass Effect trilogy revolved around Commander Shepherd, a male or female character that throughout the series travels the galaxy with his ship the Normandy, hoping to warn the populace of the coming extinction threat. The game was “ahead of it’s time” as many say. Everything you said and did with you character  reflected on the story line, as your saved files from each game carried over into the next. So it was  truly a role-playing and emotional experience for many.

The newest game however takes place almost 600 years later, and will have no real connection to most of the previous games. This not only ties a knot with Bioware Studios having to make a “canon” ending and throwing away player choices in the Trilogy, and also encourages new comers to join the franchise without much confusion. From what little we know the new game will revolve around a character named Ryder (the male or female option still exists), and their awakening in the Andromeda Galaxy. Your character and possibly thousands of other people (including allied alien species) have made a 600 year voyage in cryo sleep across the universe into the Andromeda Galaxy, one of our closest galactic neighbors. The Andromeda Initiative sent a large ship along with 4 other ships, each controlled by a different species from the Milky Way, to settle and discover what is out there beyond our own galaxy. Your character will be the leader of one of these massive ships carying thousands as humanity and the other races find a new home in this brand new galaxy, where anything could happen.
