A Spring Day

Meeting you felt like the first day of spring.

To look into your eyes resembled breathing in crisp morning air as my coffee brewed beside me.

I wish falling for you felt the same way.

Instead, I drowned with an overwhelming sensation of anxiety.

With every fight we had I was only pulled farther and farther down.

My desperate grasps for air soon became silenced through the heated impacts created by your fists.

My head became more and more heavy as the water filled my lungs.

I began to think the worst part wasn’t dying.

I waited to drown.

I kept waiting…

And yet all I got

was more water.
