Poetry: “The Day We Wed” and “Criminal”

Home

By Mel King

The Day We Wed

On the day we wed Betrothing each other’s love Thump… thump… thumping… Through and through boulevards Death knocking on our doors too soon

On the day we wed Creeping up on everyone’s face Fear… fear… fear…
Letting loose
Door hinges creaking and screaming On the day we wed

Criminal

You’re a criminal

You deceived me
Made yourself out to be something you’re not

You’re a criminal
You made me think you loved But do you actually?

You’re a criminal You stole my heart And haven’t given it back

You’re a criminal
You still have my heart
Are you ever gonna give it back?
